We’re finally down to the last day of the year! Despite our busy day-to-day schedule, we all deserve a quality time to reconnect with our friends, family, and loved ones. A party will be a perfect idea; not the kind held in bars where there’s plenty of loud music and blinding lights but a gathering at home where everyone can truly enjoy and relax. Why not you yourself host the party?
Not really an expert to it? Here are some quick guides on how you can host a lovely party at home.
Preparation is the sensible first thing to do when planning a party. What particular party will it be? Will it be a big raging house party where friends can also bring in some friends? Or will it be a simple get-together involving a few closed people? Will it be a whole afternoon party? Or for dinner only and the after-dinner wine conversations? Decide the kind of party you want to host so you can properly decide who to invite, what to buy, and what to prepare.
Next comes the invitation part. Invite only as many people as you can manage, whether you do it via social media or just a simple text message. Expect that the people you invite will all come so that you will not fall short in your preparation. An RSVP or adding a note with a “plus one” on the invitation can help you a lot in estimating the number of guests.
Clean your house thoroughly before the party and make sure everything is in place. Stock plenty of toilet papers and towels in your guest bathroom. Prepare enough napkins and make sure that the utensils are properly cleaned up. Close doors that are off-limits. Find a room or corner where people can safely leave their belongings. To be sure, make a to-do list so you will not forget any important aspect of the party preparation.
Come up with a theme
Whether it is a big or a small party, it will be more fun if you integrate some theme to it. If you want a classy look, you can go all white to look fresh, clean and pure. Most of our dinnerware also come in white so matching up is not a problem. Remember that such look may only work effectively with a small party with family or few friends.
Decorations are not required but you may hang a few to create a party vibe. Flowers almost cannot go wrong, whether it is a birthday party, graduation, a simple get-together, or even Christmas. For more specifically themed parties, be sure to bring in the right decors like party hats on a birthday, and bloody items for Halloween.
Having a theme will also prep up your guests on the dress code. Convey to them the message very well so that they won’t come overdressed or unprepared. Say for a formal party, they sport a “black tie,” and for a Halloween bash, they can go all-out with a costume. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just an accent on their clothes will enliven the party.
Serve enough food
What’s a party without food? It’s over mouthfuls of food that people converse and laugh about things. Before hosting a meal, you can start out by serving bowls of chips and several selections of dips, cheese and crackers, veggie plates, and other finger foods. Do not stress yourself with the main courses to prepare. You do not have to cook all day; you can simply call for food catering services or buy ready-made foods which you can simply warm up in the oven. When serving the courses, do not put them out all at once and refill the bowls only when needed. Consider food restrictions of your guests due to allergies, appetites, and certain beliefs.
In true Singaporean fashion, you can simply put together a hotpot dinner instead. Hotpot is relatively simple to prepare and will keep your guests entertained for hours!
Have a variety of drinks
Give your guests a pretty selection of drinks. Serve different sodas, juices, alcoholic beverages, and even tea or coffee. At least two types of each will be enough, such as wine and beer, spirits and juices, and many others.
Rest yourself at least an hour before the party. Freshen up by talking a good shower and a deserved makeover. Take the stress off so that when your guests arrive, you are more than ready to rock the party. If something wrong comes along, do not panic. Take a breath and think clearly to solve the problem. Mishaps commonly happen during a party.
Lastly, enjoy yourself!
